BIOGRAPHY
Andy Hagiioannu (pronounced ‘hajianu’) is a UK-based guitarist and composer. He began playing guitar aged nine, studying classical guitar for several years. His earliest musical experiences were with bands at the experimental/improvisatory end of the rock music spectrum. His interest in jazz began with fusion-orientated musicians including John McLaughlin and Pat Metheny. From there he began listening to artists such as Kenny Burrell and Jimmy Raney – two important influences on his playing and sound. Andy’s first professional gigs were duo and small-group affairs at venues in the Midlands, where he formed lasting connections with other musicians, and developed the music on his debut instrumental guitar album, Far and Wide. His most recent writing draws widely from other genres including the classical, post and 'art rock' styles he played early on.
'...like many accomplished players, Andy has developed his own sound. Andy's playing displays a nice blend of chordal and melodic interaction. It works wonderfully on this recording... "Far and Wide" has a captivating sound from the start. [It] builds on tradition but ventures into its own territory. It's a route the listener will appreciate.' -- ERIC ELIAS, JUST JAZZ GUITAR MAGAZINE, AUGUST ISSUE, 07.
